SD card reader options
« on: June 17, 2015, 07:16:40 PM »
I'm looking for a sub hundred dollar tablet style device to read trail cam sd cards in the field. Tired of taking the expensive laptop. I don't want to use a digital camera. I would like a 7" ish screen, pop in an SD card, view, delete, and save the pictures id like. Don't want to use an electronic picture frame. Want to flip through at will and have the option to delete and save so I can wipe the card and reinstall in the same trip to check pictures.

a bit over your price point:

http://www.amazon.com/Wildgame-Innovations-Trail-Tab/dp/B00OZDOGXK

This is what I got and have been using for a few months now. I take it in the field to check my cams on site. Mainly to see what the majority of the action is and if I should move/reposition/leave the cam. I still will just switch out my sd card there. Then I'll look in detail at the pics on laptop at home.

I also use the tablet for formatting the card each time. Haven't had any issues with that yet.

Works perfect for what I need it to.

Cons: Being outside it catches a pretty big glare and the screen can be kind of hard to see
Screen seems to scratch easily. I'd get some type of film to cover it.

If you already have an IPad or an IPad mini you can buy a very small SD card reader that connects your SD card to the device for $29.  That's what I've been using and I absolutely love it.  Very easy to do exactly what you want to do.  The only problem I am having is trying to figure out how to easily post those pics from my IPad to the forum.  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD822AM/A/lightning-to-sd-card-camera-reader

I bought an SD card reader for $5 from amazon that connects to my Android. Great for copying photos from.the card to my phone.

Just can't get the damn thing to work.

Im using a samsung note 4..it has a micro SD slot on it and have changed out my SD cards in my cams to the micros. It works great and is 10x faster than the Ipad..the Ipad has to download every pic to it which takes forever if you have 3,000 pics to look at.

I haven't timed the downloading on my Ipad mini but I would guess it takes about 2-3 seconds per picture.  If you have thousands to download at a time it would take a while.

I bought a cordless electronic picture frame.  I have a way bigger screen and paid less than what they want for a "game camera card reader"

I would get an 8 Jerry. I don't want to run the risk of filling a 4. Probably would never happen, but you never know.
