When people ask me why I like a camera that takes 6 shots per second...this is pretty good justification.   ;)

I love the dirt flying on picture 10 and 11.  When they connect it puts a shock through the other guy's body and the back legs go flying.  Sometimes the 3rd or 4th one around will come in and get a cheap shot when the other 2 are going at it.  It's really a great site to see.  Thanks all.

Thats very cool!  8) That last pic looks like they are all thinking? "What are we doing? ... that was stupid!" But like all boys full of it, they'll go right back at it no matter how dumb it is!!!!  :chuckle:

I am so thankful for a place like this that I can sit here in the rain with my 6 yr old son and look at some amazing pictures of wildlife in our state. Often times when he has a friend over he asks if I will show them the latest pictures of cool animals. Thanks so much to all of you who post pictures here.

That last sequence looks like a sore nose to me.

Yeah we looked at this sequence the other night and the ram on the left in particular and we are thinking his nose looked broken for sure! and I'm not sure  :dunno: (I looked at so many pics!) That may be the same one that has a huge scar that opened up on his face too! Maybe Shawn could confirm that one and show one of those close ups ... but it didn't look as if it was slowing him down any he was right in there every time head butting and trying to kick the other rams in the balls!  :chuckle: Maybe this will teach him next year ... don't turn your head!

Well, I would say the difference is that these are rocky mountain rams klickriver.  California rams like those in most of WA just don't get as large.  Rams like this are common in every unit and park in Montana and Alberta.  Three rams over 200" were killed recently in the "breaks" of Montana...  One thing seems common in my quest to photo rams, no matter where I go I always seem to hike 6-12 miles every day.  Some of the toughest rams I photograph are from parks like Glacier and Waterton.  It's hard to find rams there.

It's all relative.  It's kind of like comparing blacktails to mule deer or whitetails to cous deer.  They look alike but there is a difference as one just doesn't get as large as the other.

Thanks all.

I would say to those of you that want to see some mega rams in WA we have them.  When I was in college I would go down to Idaho unit 11 south of Lewiston or the WA units almost every weekend.  I would spot big 185"+ rams for hunters that would go take some of these rams or try.  Black Butte use to have a 190" ram all the time and sometimes more than one.  Sometimes they are in Oregon and then come over the border.  Then there are other units like Mountainview and such that hold sheep but are more difficult to locate due to timber but it can be done.  I know there are rams in the Wenaha, but I have failed to find any on at least 5 different hikes in there.  A lot of those herds are hurting bad.  These days, I hear there are a few big ones in the Asotin/Tucannon herds.  I use to get a ton of ram pictures that way.  That reminds me, I should go do that again here...  Plus, you can make it a steelhead trip and kill two birds with one stone.   A boat does help with some of the areas.  The wafnaws website has pictures of some of the mega rams from the last couple years.  I wish these herds would come back but too much ranching and domestic animals are killing them all.
