Crabbing around Decption Pass or area 8
« on: July 08, 2015, 07:10:49 PM »
I am running around last minute to go camping / crabbing and it looks like we are headed to Deception Pass area.  Any good crabbing around there or suggestions?
Hoping to have pots in the water tomorrow afternoon.  I used to do fairly well around Whidbey Island when I was in the Navy, but that was so long ago I'm not sure  I will remember the area.  :chuckle:

Thanks in advance for your input and help!!

If you launch at Corner bay you can crab right in there. Kinda crowded though. Your other option is to crab in the big bay to the North East of Cornet Bay.  I don't know how big your boaat is but those are the 2 best options I know of that are fairly close.  I know there are other places between there and the Nave Base. Just look for other pots and drop yours in the vicinity.

Thanks Ripper!

Do you know if we can leave the boat moored at Cornet Bay?

Looking forward to some fresh Crab tonight!

I don't think so. You probably wouldn't want to anyway unless you took everything of value out of it.

There is a small marina near the boat launch.  There is also state park moorage just west of the launch.  I believe you need a dingy for some of the docks but not all.  I'd call the park and check.

Also right around the corner to the East are 2 small island parks, Hope & Skagit.  I believe Hope has mooring buoys.

Go east out of Coronet Bay, head south, big island (Hope Is) on the left (east) side, drop pots north of that.  We did well there a few years back.  Bring some rings and you can prospect while your pots soak, more fun that way than just sitting and waiting.   :twocents:

Last year hope had mooring buoys.

Great advice guys.  THANK YOU!  We killed it right where you suggested.

Threw back several legal ones to keep bigger crab.

Thanks again!  Heading back in 2 weeks to try again and to hopefully catch a few pinks
