Grayback Unit

Has anyone hunted the grayback unit or had any success in there?

Hunted hated lots of people lots of private land.

Yeah...just went there today...saw four does in some guys field. I saw about 100 cows though...and im talking about the ones that go "moo." It made me start to wonder what the introduction of livestock does to the deer herds...I came to the conclusion that the deer leave...because I did not see a damn thing.

They really don't eat the same thing, so shouldn't effect deer too much.

All I know is there were cows everywhere and not much deer sign...so what is the difference between a deers diet and a cows? It really cant be that much different can it?

Deer are browsers and cattle are grazers.  Deer don't have the stomaches to eat the grass cows do.  Elk tend to eat more grasses than deer.  Deer need to eat brush.

we hunt some cattle grazing land every year and pretty much kill 4 deer for 4 guys every year. the only inconvenience the cows have caused me is the occasional cow pie.

Deer eat broad leafs.
Grayback is a tough unit to hunt. You either hunt private land by knocking on doors or you find gates and hike. I killed my buck 2 years ago 10 miles back. I shot it at 9 in the morning and i got to the truck at 8:30 that night.
Find gates and hunt. Start looking around grayback mountain.

I live next to the Klickitat wildlife Area.  It gets a lot of pressure, as does surrounding area.  Best bet is cross the Klickitat River, area 578 and hunt toward Glenwood.  More open areas and it is two point min.  My wife and I hunt there and the Bicketon area.  Three point min for 382, but lots of area to hunt.

I have wanted to hunt around bickleton can you point me toward some public land to hunt.  It does not have to be a honey hole.  Also how hard does that get hunted.

Bickelton is in east klickitat. I have no clue. But i do know most of that area is private.

I was in that bickleton area and all I saw was private land pretty much everywhere!

i hunt that area every year and every year i get a nice buck out of there, but you have to go to dnr and get a map of all the state land out there, there's plenty of state land and plenty of deer to go around
