Who has had Diesel EGR Maintenance? How much did it cost?

Can you legally delete the EGR and have it still be on road legal?  I'd check into that before I did it.  I had to replace EGR cooler on my Ford Diesel and the EGR cooler delete was a no bueno and I could cause myself big problems when I was ready to sell.

Also, they told me excessive idling was a killer for the EGR cooler.  Told me idling cakes up the passages of the EGR cooler then they overheat and crack, causing coolant to leak into the exhaust.  On my Ford the replacement parts from BulletProof weren't that bad, it was the labor that sucked.

Depends what county you live in and if they emissions test.  Eastside should not be a problem (maybe the exception of Spokane) .  If you save all your parts you can always go back to stock for testing then take it all back off again...kind of a pain in the you know what but it is doable.  I second you on the idling, that is the worst possible thing for an emissions equipped diesel.

Don't know much about Davis Diesel, but I know a company in Coeur D Alene that will do it and make sure the price is competitive.  And if you have any desire to delete anything, they do that to.   Deviant Race Parts (208) 719-0112  Ask for Mark.  He is the mechanic/manager and does work from his personal shop as well.

Oh, didn't know that's how it worked.  I thought if you took any of the emission crap off a vehicle it came with, it would no longer be street legal, regardless of whether they emission tested or not. 

Considering the labor cost to put it back on, I'd still check to make sure before I took the leap.

Technically tampering  is tampering  I really doubt you will have a issue in less your a shop ...what paper work.

No idea on cost, but alligator performance is in courdelane, and are pretty highly regarded amongst the diesel community.

Id also say get yourself a tuner and delete the sucker.

Geno's garage.com. order egr service kit  and a few fuel filters while you're there. Rear egr manifold nut is a pain, had to fabricate custom crows foot socket. Exhaust fasteners are SS so a little grease inside socket to hold to keep from falling between block and manifold. Good luck

Well it's not like the truck will refuse to run and call the epa on you.

Ps I deleted everything on my f350 and it still passes emissions with the help of the right tune.

Pss don't buy "preprogrammed tuners" like edge, banks, hyper or super chips
Get yourself an SCT and custom tunes by someone you trust.

Update
So it was my exhaust sensor. I brought it to a friend and after replacing it, light came back on. So story short, had to bring it to Dodge to get code cleared. Apparently they are on one able to clear it. As well as the sensor put on may not be good enough because it's not factory, $200+ more than after market. If it goes off again Dodge says have to replace with Factory.
What I have learned with all my vehicles with all emission gatchets, is nothing more than a gimic to get you in dealerships to pay BIG $$$! A guy ahead of me was told it would cost him $900 plus to resolve is "Check Engine" issue.
Bottom line, my warranty is past and I'm saving to delete it all!

My 05 dodge 5.9 check engine light has been on for years. A local mechanic from the Methow took the code to dodge and they said "it needed a new turbo". He said to drive it until it stops running it and it is still running like the 5.9 should

Emission controlls and commercial vehicles are the only 2 ways that "tampering" can be controlled. Bullet prood diesel out of AZ has some pretty good products that keep you legal.
