Nooksack Hunting

Hey guys... so unfortunately most of the places I hunt are on fire this year. So I was going to explore hunting in Nooksack area. I am not too familiar with the area, but plan on going out there scouting next week. Any ideas or suggestions for places to start near there? Any help is appreciated...thx

Welcome to the site,   Now tell us more about yourself. Where do you live?  How long have you been hunting?   What weapon do you prefer?  Your post is in the deer hunting section so I'm assuming your looking for info on blacktail hunting only.   The nooksack is a great area,  but with lots of thick brush, and gates it can be challenging to hunt during the modern season.   Especially if you can't do a ton of scouting

This is only my third season hunting, and i live north of Seattle-Bothell area. I currently only use modern firearm-Remington .243. Yes I am looking at Black tail- I am planning to scout next week, but you can only do so much in so little time I am currently looking at Forest RD 38 near the Mt. Baker National Recreational area. I am also looking to do the high buck season- so I have heard that I should try to get above 4,000'. Do you have any experience with the high buck hunt? I know im still a fairly new hunter so ANY info will help! Thx

Ok thx! From what point is there no vehicle access- are all the service roads blocked off?

38 is a good starting point for scouting  It is gated several miles from the pavement and may not get you as close to the wilderness as you might hope.     While your in that area check out the access roads into to GMU 407 and check the regs on the modern seasons for deer, and elk in 407 compared to 418,    I also would think you could find a pretty good area for the general and late deer seasons alot closer to your home and thus save gas and increase scouting time.   For the High buck I have only scouted and will be hunting it for the first time this year.  But I will be hunting on the North side of 542.

Unless you can put the time in to scout, I wouldn't waste your time.  418 is not an easy unit to hunt in unless you know where to go.  Lots of brushy reprod and mazes of gated logging rds. That being said, if you have it in you to hike far, work hard, and scout early, there are deer out here.

I would totally disagree with this statement Blacktailer... I didn't read a thing a out the use of Coors light as an attractant, having your buddies push all the good bucks to him, or my all-time favorite just driving around until a big buck walks out in front of the truck.

Hey thanks for all the suggestions- what about the twin lakes area- it is in the Wilderness and has pretty high elevation... anyone have any thoughts on that area or ever run into any trouble hunting in that area??
