public lands
« on: August 24, 2015, 07:38:49 PM »
I have mixed feelings about this years new goose regs. A question I have for you all to ponder for me, for the very late goose season now available, what exactly will define public lands? The Columbia river has many juristictions and land owners, the state being one. WDFW managed lands only? What about private property that is open to the public through a WDFW sign in. Ihunt a lot of small areas that are owned privately, accessible only by navigable rivers and stay below the high water line (gravel bars and islands). Is open water a public land?

Private lands are private lands even if they have a hunting access agreement with WDFW.  If they are not owned by a city, county, state, or federal agency then they are private lands and open to hunting during the late season with landowner permission.

Private land only is pretty clear.

This season used to be master hunters only and private land owners were paid to participate in the program.  Hunters were called by a coordinator and assigned a piece of land to hunt.

I assume all that is gone now.

Also gone are the harvest record card and the check stations – the Dusky population must have improved.

i think it sucks.  7 days a week down to 4 where i hunt/fish(i don't really focus on goose, but more of a cast and blast thing).  odds are i'll never hunt private either because i won't pay the outrageous lease fees in the chehalis valley.  so really a lose/lose for me.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun
