Buck down labor day
« on: September 08, 2015, 06:30:03 AM »
Spotted this buck with 4 other at over 1000 yards away laying down on a shale slide behind some bushes. I started my stalk around 1 o clock, the only way up was right up there deer trail that goes around the edge of shale slide, I creeped up it everytime the wind would blow hard I would make some ground and then stop. I was right next to wher I seen him laying and he wasn't there!! So I took a few more steps and he was behind a different little tree now. I peeked out and he kinda caught  my movement he lifted his head up out of his bed and I ranged him 37 yards. So I dialed in the sight and drew back thinking he would stand, he just laid there so I put it's right at the bottom of his chest. When I shot he jumped up and fell over got up and took off about 40 yards before he stopped laid down and piled up! My shot hit the elbow in his leg when he was laying down and went through the elbow in his front leg right into his lungs. When he jumped he broke the arrow off inside and raked him self up inside pretty good! Hands down the best stalk I've ever been a part of!! Got a bear and a buck now all I need is a elk

Congrats..
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.
