Grouse guns?

I'm thinking about doing some grouse hunting this year. I'm curious what you guys use for grouse guns? Thanks Jason

I've killed most my grouse with my 12 gauge, but I have to say, I love using my daughters youth 20 gauge lately.  I did once use a stick and my hands! In Idaho elk hunting I saw 3 birds in a tree, threw  a stick at one and hit the branch it was on.  It fell to the ground and acted like I shot it, grabbed it and broke his neck.  All three birds died the same way, couldn't believe it.

It took me a couple years to find a nice 4" model 17 for sale.  I recently changed the grips to match my 4" 29-3 which I also occasionally use for grouse, loaded with bird-shot of course.

I hunt with my Springer; so I enjoy trying to shoot them on the wing with either my CZ Bobwhite SXS 28 Ga. or my Weatherby SA-08 28 Ga.; Modified choke and either 7 1/2 or size 6 shot.

I have the Weatherby SA-08 in 20 gauge, and absolutely love that gun for the price point.

I grew up shooting a double barrel .410, it was nice at the time as that's what was given to me, but I prefer the semi auto 20 for forest birds and upland work now that I'm footing the bill.

 I'd think about what else you'll want to do after this. Will you be keen to try to kick up Quail as well? if so maybe consider a 28,20, or 16 gauge. Price out shot, and ease of buying it, which models fit your budget and ease of getting replacement parts if so. Randy Wakeman and Chuck Hawks usually have reviews that are worth throwing an eyeball on. They're kind of over the top at times, but will give you a base of quality to assist in your decision.
