Did you try and save the meat at least?
Not something I would have posted on a Public Forum, but to each their own I guess.

Seems like this was the ethical and moral thing to do. Why shouldn't you try to help get a tag on this buck and get it to the shooter? I'm sure whoever shot it would like to have it. I really don't understand your logic here.

The temperature overnight at my house go down to 42 degrees, so if it is taken care of quickly the meat may be salvageable. I guess unless I hear from someone on here, then it is in WDFW's hands now. This does suck though.... I hate seeing animals go to waste. If I had an archery deer tag I would have seriously considered putting it on this buck if I could have done so legally.

Hopefully they will make it right. If they called me back and said I could try to salvage the meat I would pack up from work and be there in a heartbeat to salvage as much as I could. I dispatched and salvaged a doe that had been hit by a car while on my honeymoon near Sandpoint last September, so I am all about saving meat when I can legally do so.My original post was mostly sarcastic, but I thought there might be a long shot that someone might see this and actually know something about it and be able to have the hunter go claim his/her buck.

Sure it's ok if you put your tag on it. It always makes me sad to see fresh killed deer that have to go to waste such as a fresh road kill. If a deer ruins my car why am I not allowed to take the backstraps if they are in decent enough shape? anyway, I could go on about this all day. Hope you find the shooter.
Too hot for that deer to be any good to eat. With the temperature and intestines still in the deer, that thing is toast. But it was definetly worth the try.

Nothing more. This thought did cross my mind as well, but I thought it was worth the long shot of someone seeing it and owning up to the deer. The thought also crossed my mind to cover the deer laying there with a sheet or something in order to keep it out of public view, but I couldn't find anything in my pickup to cover it with.

Now, if it was gutshot, lived for a while circulating that yuck through it's system, and then sat somewhat warmish overnight, different story.
