Anyone up here getting anything to fire up yet? Still silent for the most part where I'm at.

What's the deal? No moon, drought? Low bull to cow ratios? Any theories? Seems its unusually quiet in a lot of places this year. I know the rut is in full swing so its not for a lack of that.

Haven't heard a peep yet, just been hunting the past two days though... Not what I normally face that's for sure.

I have been out the last two days and haven't heard one bugle.  I snuck up on two bedded bulls by accident,  I was cow calling below them about 100 yards; as I was heading up the hill the two rag horn bulls jumped out of their beds about 40 yards from me. They showed no interest in my calling, either I suck at cow calling or they weren't in the mood.  I am headed out once I finish typing this up, I am off the rest over the week to chase Elk in Idaho and Washington.

I've heard a few bugles right at dark last week. Been quiet since. Last year in 113 on October 2nd I got back to my truck from checking cams just after dark. I ripped a bugle and the mountians came alive with bugles.  Then the wolves fired up and never heard another peep. We aren't the only predators locating elk by sound.

I called in a bull right to the road he came in silent with one bugle...and I seen another big herd bull with 10 cows....I snuck in on him to around 80-100 yds and cow called and he got up and left with his cows  :bash: I heard 3 bugles last sat and he was in the thickest nastiest hole I've seen and that was it the whole week
