I always wanted to make some out of cuben fiber.

Super strong, won't rip, very light and it is very slippery.

But how breathable is it ?

Not very.  Tough stuff and crazy light weight.  I believe it was originally developed for Connors and the Americas Cup racing team for use as lightweight jib sails.

Sorry here is the link  :chuckle:

Are these the ones that hit Camofire every once in a while?

I think they have but there is also another brand that has popped up.  A buddy ordered a set of brand x so I'll be interested in how they work out.  I haven't gotten to see them yet.  I got mine from Blackovis.
Don;t know if you noticed, but when you click on the link it shows there is a product recall. Don't know if it applies to you, but i says out of stock until January(?) due to product recall.

Actually Bill Koch's A3 syndicate and I remember the first sails done were mains.

It isn't breathable at all and I was thinking of sewng vents in. My main idea was for dragging an animal out of something like a clearcut etc.

Ya I mentioned that in my first post.  Something with the seams on a run of bags.  You could literally just bust em open with your hands.  Mine were fine, a buddies were not.  He had a new set in short order though and they are working hard to replace all the bad bags.

You are probably right about the sails.  Been awhile since I read the background.  Fascinating that this use of Dyneema and the first uses of Spectra fibers were developed for sailing.  Yet we use them every day now in the archery industry.

Great idea about using a bag like that for dragging animals!  We used to wrap UHMW sheet around bear to help us drag them out with the Argo.  Same base material different configuration.  Should work great.  Make sure to make we one too! ;) ;)

Sounds like an excellent ground cover type material to lay meat on or use as a shelter...is it really tough enough to work as a drag ? It's just so light

You can put a chunk of it in a vise and grab it with vise grips and not be able to tear it.

I have an old section of a Groupama gennaker coming from New Zealand to make rifle drag bags from. I may try a game size bag.

The Dyneema fibers are cross layered and sandwiched between polyester laminate film.  I'm sure the Poly would wear off after awhile, but I would think it should work great until that happens.  Suppose a lot depends on how the top layer of fiber is oriented.  I'd be happy to test it if you make me one or two. :chuckle:

Don't know if it is true or not, but there was talk of them making a breathable cloth that would be nearly indestructible and act much the same as Gore-Tex.  Claim was that it would eliminate flex area leaks in boots, rain jackets and pants, waders and anything else where a Gore-Tex membrane is used.  Can't remember the name of it.  Something oddball like CubeX4 :dunno:  Haven't heard anything about it in a few years, but seemed exciting to have a better than Gore-Tex option.

I'll check in my archives and see if I have that brief from Dyneema.

what are some of your guys's favorite game bags for the backcountry. seems like mixed reviews on most. it will be for elk so I need to be able to hang in tree's with them.

I debone my meat and use old pillow cases for my meat bags. They are light, roll up small and are cheap.

This isn't the one I mentioned.  But it is an article from this month with some interesting things to say about the material and has a neat video.

There really isn't anything to wear off. The way it's made makes it Into a monolithic structure. I recall its put under tremendous pressure and heat.

I have probably 50,000 miles of sailing with cuben sails and one of the things it was best at was dealing with chafe.

Some of the lighter material is .3 oz per square yard.

It is a little spendy though.

B.O.M.B bags hands down if you bone meat out.

Explain to me how they are "hands down" better than the Kifaru meat sacks that are 1oz. and can hold up to 100lbs of boned out meat? :dunno:

You better get off my buddy Karl..

Mtn muley!!!.. :chuckle:
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

I've looked at it many times.  There is no Federal Excise Tax and half the audits Obama can drop upon us if we were to make packs and/or game bags!  But then again - Extreme back country hunters are almost as annoying as Hoyt target shooters.  :o

Wonder how many hundreds of requests for free packs and sponsorships Kifaru, Kuiu, Exo Mountain and T.A.G. Bags get per week?  If few enough I might actually get all my taxes in on time and keep up on my emails!  Maybe I should sell the business and start making packs and bags  :chuckle: :chuckle:

Just joking...please don't send more hate mail :tung:
