Congratulations to all the nice bucks taken this year! This is my first post. Started the morning off glassing for the first hour of daylight. I was hunting a burn area I have hunted several times. Then I finally spotted a deer a couple hundred yards away....it was a doe. She was accompanied by two more does, behind her were 5 more does.....figures right. I saw a larger body behind them and i thought it might be a buck. Just then one of the does started to blow a distress call. I snuck down the hill a little farther to get a closer look at the larger bodied deer. With the long range I could not tell if it was a buck so i figured it couldn't be that big. I was on a solo hunt and it was a cold morning with cloud cover. I figured I would circle around back up the hill on the trail I hiked down on and side hill to try and put a sneak on the group. I made my way ahead of them on a game trail and glassed down the hill. I noticed a larger darker bodied deer that had appeared on a bluff covered in buckbrush. After glassing for so long I gave it a rest and turned to the left to take a glance up the hill and noticed a deer trotting down hill about 100yrds away. I quickly glassed the deer and OH MY GOD! What I saw felt like a dream. A huge 4pt rack thick and tall was heading down the hill with his head towering upright. All I could picture was Eastmans hunting journal and Holy #$$$ . I glassed towards the buck and he disappeared. My heart was pounding rapidly and almost beat out of my chest. I told myself this was the buck I have dreamed of and put many years and time searching for and knew if I had the opportunity I needed to calm down and put a good shot on. Seconds later the buck was 50yrds away with his head down walking unaware right in my direction, I couldn’t believe it. He stopped in between 2 trees and kept looking at the ground. I quickly dropped to one knee and raised my Howa 1500 .270 and put the cross hairs on his chest. I felt confident and calm then squeezed the trigger....click....The safety was on! I pushed off my safety and Boom! I don’t remember hearing my shot. I racked another shell in the chamber and looked towards the buck......He dropped in his tracks! .....A Special thank you to my father in laws reloads ( Nosler Ballistic tips) they sure did the trick on the buck and I couldn’t feel more blessed! Thank you Riverrun for the help on the heavy packout strait up hill! I notched him with my multi season tag and sent the caped head to Keepin it Real taxidermy in Selah. I look forward to seeing the shoulder mount! Good luck and strait shooting to everyone!
