First season tips and advice on locations
« on: October 28, 2015, 08:42:29 PM »
Hi,

I grew up in pheasant hunting in the UK but now live here in Issaquah on the west side. I've got a young shorthair pointer and this is going to be the first season for both of us.

I was hoping that people might be willing to share a few good locations for chukar, quail and pheasant. If people prefer to send a personal message rather than reply that would be great. I'm not expecting people to give up their secret spots, just a helping hand so that my dog can get some good experience.

Thanks,
Pete

Pete, the WDFW website is a tremendous resource; as is the current 2015 Upland Bird & Waterfowl Regulation pamphlet. Both have the harvest totals by county of each specie. Take that info. and match it with the Regional Wildlife Areas in the best harvest counties on the WDFW website and you are off to a good start. Also, consider contacting each of those Regional Offices for more info. The WA Atlas & Gazeeter is a great resource, as well.

Hunting spots are something not usually shared with internet trollers/posters as most people have worked hard to find them. Good luck.

You may already know, but there are also pheasant release sites in Western WA. I think they also have specific times of the year outside of season where you can train your dog at those sites. Something to look into if that sounds of interest. Otherwise you'll want to head east over the mtns.
