Sounds a lot like what the neighbor used to do with blackberries he paid us to pick. He would make wine from it and add a touch of Everclear to kick it up a notch. Mom and her friend always hit a bit of it before they led our cub scout group.
Or do this simple recipe to make your own blackberry brandy.

Just fyi simple syrup is typically a 1:1 ratio so 1 cup water(liquid) to 1 cup sugar brought to a boil then cooled.
When the neighbors made shine growing up it was made in a stil wine was made in carboys I only recently leaned the art of mixing things like cider and booze and everclear to make delicious things like apple pie

For those who insist on Everclear (or don't have access to real shine) run it through a Brita filter at least a dozen times and the taste will be night and day! It will kill that nasty Everclear after taste and smooth it out. Plain old sugar shine (water, turbo yeast and sugar) is best for making your flavored spirits like berry, apple or cinnamon, if you can find it.

As far as consentration of syrup to shine, start with a half cup per quart of shine and add to taste. Some like it really sweet like apple pie ans some (myself included) prefer just a hint of berry. I made some with wild huckleberries that was 1/2 cup of syrup to a quart of shine and it was so good that I have to hide it when folks come over.

A really good local shine is Smokey Valley by Cowlitz Distillery. It is a semi neutral corn based shine, very clean and works well for flavoring without the nastiness.

Whatever you do, don't add the alcohol to hot liquid unless you are going to seal it right away!

1 gallon of blackberry concentrate simmered for 30 minutes with a gallon of apple cider, let cool, strain, and add a 1/5 of everclear. We do this every year and its to die for, we get a lot of people asking for the recipe. Blackberry pie as we like to call it

I'd mix it with 5 gallons of fresh apple cider and pitch yeast.
