bow help please!
« on: November 23, 2015, 04:22:50 PM »
So I just got done shooting some arrows at 20 and 30 yards. All my arrows are hitting right by approximately 5 inches. I think that's wierd so I adjust my sight accordingly and do this 2 more times with not much difference in arrow placement. Im huntng late deer wednesday and my bow shop is closed till then. I think I need to adjust my rest left? I need some input asap on what I can do to fix this. Thank you very much!

You might be off on technique. I had a similar issue. And after talking to a few friends found I was screwing up my follow through by trying to watch where the arrow went.

I called off archery elk until possibly next year because I wasn't consistent enough for my own personal standards.

Trick that helped me was closing my eyes right before the shot and just concentrating on my form and follow though (make sure you have a safe back stop your not going to be accurate) maybe try that. I'm no expert so I'll let them speak now.

I just tried moving my rest slightly left and it didnt make a difference. Jolten thank you for the response. I dont think its my form though. I have been shooting going on 8 years now. I have never ran into this issue thats why I am at a loss. Also I experimented at 10 yards using my 20 yard pin after my first post. That seems to be dead center every shot but then move back to 20 and way right. Im so confused.

If there all shooting right move your sight to the right. At 10 yards it should not make that much difference. Move you sight till your good.

I have moved it quite a bit with not a ton more adjustment to that side left.

I dont believe my fletching is hitting anything. Something that just came to mind though. Im left handed so my bow arm is my right arm. I was wearing a bigger coat since its cold out. I havent shot with a bigger jacket on this year. If my string hit my coat could it throw the flight off to the right? Im not sure if it was hitting my jacket so if theres any other ideas keep them coming. I wish it didnt get dark so early. Going to have to test all this out in the half hour of light tomorrow.....

Take off the coat and see if it repeats?

 :yeah:

From my experience, hitting your sleeve causes erratic arrow flight (usually low in some manner) because it does not always hit the same amount.

I would bet your form is slightly off, sore arm, elbow, wrist etc.  At ten yards, your sights can be way off but will not be noticeable until you move farther back.  Your max range is where you should be doing your final sight adjustments.  One inch of adjustment at 40 yards is only going to be about 1/4 at 10.   :twocents:

Are you moving your sight to the left?........should be moving it to the right if hitting right

Chase the arrow with the pins... Hitting right; move one right. Hitting left; move pons left. Hitting low; move pins lower... You get the point.

Use a removable gun wrap or an arm sleeve over your forearm to compress your jacket if you're going to be wearing it while hunting.

crisis adverted! I am glad it was something so simple. I never have before shot with that jacket on. Today after shooting some more with my arm guard on I was having the same result. after some shooting, while at full draw I started trying to look around at eveything near my arrow. My stupid collar from my coat was hitting the fletch of the arrow as I released. Zipped my coat all the way up so it wasnt hanging and bam! shooting darts again. Thank you for all your guys input. I am glad it was something so silly. Good luck to you all late season!
