Beaver Colony Traps?
« on: December 02, 2015, 07:26:40 PM »
I have seen beaver colony traps mentioned here before, but was wondering if anyone knew about the specific legalities of beaver colony traps in WA?

I have been dealing with a particularly difficult beaver trapping scenario on property where I can't get a special trapping permit (at least I am 99% sure I can't) with fairly wide, deep channels and the need to allow fish to pass. The beaver are doing a fair amount of damage and they are pretty numerous, so I'd like to harvest a few there.

All that got me thinking pretty hard and I have a few ideas for trap designs that could be made up as single or multiple catch traps. If colony traps are cool, then I think I'll do it that way, but I want to be sure first.

As far as I know it's legal.  Trapperguy22 got 3 beaver in a trap once.  There use to be a pic on here somewhere.

There are no laws in WA that restrict the size of colony traps.

thanks! I guess it's time to look into the building costs of these traps I'm thinking about.

I've been using beaver colony traps this year. All I can say is build them tough !!!! My first beaver blew right threw my door! 1/4" round rod frame is not enough. I'd weld up an all 1/4" rod doors.  They do work
