Release Sites
« on: December 04, 2015, 10:35:00 AM »
Would I be able to run my dog at a pheasant release site without buying a permit if I just wanted to run her but not hunt. Are they still hunting pheasants at the Cherry Valley site this weekend?

"Small game license required for training dogs on all wild birds; except only a Western Washington pheasant
license is required for Western Washington pheasants."

Pheasant season is now closed in western WA.

Don't go buy a Western Pheasant License. That season is over in almost all locations. Pretty sure the Snoqualmie valley sites are done. IDK if you can just go out there and dog train. I recall some debate about people going to those areas to walk their dogs during hunting season and I don't know if any new rules were imposed. Why not just go to Peppers and avoid all the uncertainty?

You're talking about only running your dog right? Since the western phez season is over shouldn't be any prob at all to let your dog sniff or point a couple let over ditch chickens.

Anybody can run their dogs on the release sites as far as I know. Just don't be carrying a gun. You need your WDFW parking pass or the Discover pass.

That doesn't sound very fair to flush birds off the release site. I would think ones who paid the $90 permit would be pretty P.O.'d about that.

I'd do it when the hunting season is over or when nobody is hunting.

That would be fine after the hunting season is over, but running your dogs after 4:00 pm on a release night? Not cool!

Training this time of year is a dick move if it's on a cropped property (Crescent lake, etc.); there are still guys that can field hunt ducks and you'd be out in the middle of that.

Bingo, $15 and you get 'serenity now.'

The Snoqualmie sites have dedicated dog training areas. All other rules apply.

If you are just running your dog, make sure WDFW owns it and go for it.  If it is leased, just ask and your wishes ill probably be granted.
