Another option is to keep a close eye on all the animal shelters near you and look for a dog that will fit your needs. A good buddy of mine that has been a duck/goose guide for 20+ years does that. He's had 3 great dogs, all from our local shelter. Just have to know what to look for...

That is a Boykin Spaniel. He is five years old and weighs just under 40 #. He hunts mostly upland for pheasants and quail but is also a waters dog. Half the size of a lab, twice the heart. That goose is about 15#.
We have one more 8 week old german shorthair pointer left from our litter. Its was breed through our two very famous show and hunting dogs. Let me know if your interested in seeing any pics of him and want anymore info. He sure loves chasing the pheasant wings around.
