Who got a Lewis Chainsaw Winch... THIS GUY <----
« on: December 17, 2015, 09:35:37 AM »
I'm just excited because I got a chainsaw winch.  Let me know if you have something big you want to move in the middle of nowhere.

I'm ready.

Any tips from owners/users out there?  Also, I think I'm going to need an A-Dapt-A-Kit because what is on there doesn't look like it'll mesh well with any saw motor I hope to use.

Dont get too excited D-Rock... you have to kill something first.  Jk, you had a far better season than I did.

I have a Lewis winch and to tell the truth I don't think they are much use for hunting. Too heavy and don't have that much line capacity.
I've used my for rolling out some cedar I was cutting and a few times on firewood but never been able to use it for pulling out an animal.

I would think the capstan one would be a better choice.

I wish I had some pics but I can give a short explanation:
Took the cable off the spool. Bought a 3000 ft spool of 1800lb mule tape. Have buddy "A" take end of mule tape and a couple pullies and head out to animal. Tie off to animal, loop like three wraps of tape around spool on the winch. Fire up the power head and place pre sized zip tie on power head throttle. Wrap mule tape back onto big spool as it comes off the winch.  :)

I don't know what saw body I'm going to stick it on yet, but would prefer the direct drive.  Trying to decide on the universal kit or the direct drive kit... WHAT TO DO!?!

I think i'm going to go with the direct kit...

I just picked up a small winch with Honda engine and capstan. Only weighs about 20 lbs. It came with about 250 feet of line. Make 4 turns on capstan and start pulling. I can't wait to try it.

have to agree with you on that, we just used mine this year, strung out 7 sections of haywire and hung a block up about 40ft, went ahead on it till we would get to a hindu and start over, it worked, just slow, then had to make coils again, that was the worst part!
go ahead on er.
