Duck hunting first on the first.
« on: January 01, 2016, 04:17:51 PM »
So i'm sure others have done this plenty of times, but this was a first for me. I was out duck hunting today and three birds came in flying super close together. I took a shot at the middle bird hoping I could drop it, and maybe injure one of the others and drop a second with my second shot. Well I took my shot and all three birds dropped. I got a triple  with one shot! That is probably a once in a life time for me, I doubt I'll ever be able to do that again!

Pretty sure it was a lucky shot, but thanks.

Good work sir! What were they if I may ask? I usually end up with three shells to one bird.... not three birds to one shell so I'm a little jealous  :)

That's a first for me. I usually end up like you, emptying my gun for a bird, it was a lucky shot for sure! They were buffleheads.

That's pretty cool but with buffleheads it will happen again. Once I was hunting and a group came in and a drake was in the front and I told my buddies watch this. Shot the drake and said look how good I  am I only got the drake. They started to laugh because I didn't notice the three hens laying belly up behind him.

You aim for the middle and with the spread and shot string, you typically will drop more than your aiming at!
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

It was a first for me, I've shot buffles before and gotten some doubles but not any triples. I hope you are right that it happens plenty more. Pretty fun to watch them all fold.

I always try to get 2 or 3 mergansers per shell.....      :chuckle:  Got five (3, 1, 1) with three shots last year, Amber fetched them all.

Nice. Do you take many mergansers? I rarely shoot em.

Where I'm hunting, it's about 50% of my take, good thing I know how to cook them so my family likes 'em.   :)

I've seen flocks of over 500.   :yike:  I counted 92 as they swam past the dock we use two years ago.
