Wyoming Elk Draw
« on: January 13, 2016, 05:29:17 PM »
Who's in or is putting in?  I keep going back and forth on which unit to apply for.  You only have max pts once and I don't want to waste them on a hunt that I won't be happy with.  Plus I'm not much of an elk hunter so I want it to be very enjoyable so I don't lose interest during the hunt.  Decision, decisions, decisions.

I'm just buying a point in July as this is my first year. Best of luck! Check out go hunt.com for some good info!

I think a late hunt by Cody would be really good. Don't know if I'm going to apply for a point or tag this year. If I had max points I would apply for a tag that's for sure.

I'm definitely applying for a tag.

For pure enjoyment, I'd go with a rifle rut tag!  I don't think you can go wrong with any of the top tier elk tags in wyoming.  Probably just points this year.  Don't have quite enough points for the tag I want.

The hot weather that you usually get with a rut tag is a huge turn off for me.  I wold love to do a late hunt in the snow around Cody but bears worry me.  But I'm going to have to figure something out.  You gotta love application season.

Haha!  Right!?!!!  Utah is gonna make my head explode :chuckle:

Utah's easy.  The Henry's for deer and San Juan for elk.   :chuckle:

Another point for me until Karl decides we have enough points to try for a tag.  :chuckle:

With elk in Idaho and deer in Montana, most likely points again for me this year. By the time I am ready to apply I should have a decent amount of points.

I'm not sure if I'm doing points or applying this year, most likely I'll just apply for a long shot and see what happens. I'm up to 6 points after drawing area 30 back in 2010. I guess I need to start putting a plan together.

Dad and I have max.  We decided we were going to do it individually so that we don't have the pressure of having to fill two tags on one trip.  Dad is going to draw first, then I'll start putting in.  We've got in narrowed down to 2-3 hunts, but it's getting down to the nitty gritty splitting hairs between them.  Good luck to everyone applying!

Got two points now and waiting for the rest of the group to let me know what they want to do.  Not really looking for a giant, just looking to try something new with a new area and different people with time away from work and fresh air.  Probably the Gray's river area,  with options open.  Don't have a lot of info about hunting Wyoming elk hunting sort of a punt.  If you got better info and want to share great, you can PM but I truly understand if you are tight lip. Good luck to all in the 2016 season no matter where you hunt.

We are going as a group of 4 with the general tag as there is a couple units we may hunt that both open Sept. 26!

Excellent idea!
My wife and I both are one one pt under max, I screwed up one year and thought I applied! Dooh! So looking at a split year, her bext year me the year after. A few units are within reach now at this stage. It's just deciding where your points mean the most.
Some friends of mine did general elk one year and had a great hint, went back next year and had a crap Hunt! It's a real guessing game as to weather, best bet is pick a hint that does not rely on weather.
