Low steelhead numbers??
« on: January 26, 2016, 06:28:04 PM »
Has anyone else noticed lower numbers of steelhead in the chehalis system or tributaries? I fished my favorite high water hole yesterday on the chehalis and didn't touch a fish. I've been fishing this hole for almost a decade now and I have it to where I know when to fish it, what water level and what to use and 100% of the time we catch at least a couple fish but like I said we didn't even get a bite yesterday and the conditions were prime for that hole. That was the 2nd time this winter we've fished it, the first time we only got one fish. Is it just a crappy return this year?? :dunno:

Been pretty solid numbers and average size.  We have had a lot of high water this year keeping the fishing windows short for drifting and boating.  I think all the high water is probably diluting the plunking numbers for you, if that's what you have been doing.

Huh, yeah we typically catch most of our fish during high water. Maybe our honey hole is just degressing a little.

Holes often change.  It could just be not as productive as it used to be.

Sounds like it's been good most places... when the rivers have been in shape.  I just haven't been able to make it out much :bash:

Well that's good I'm glad to hear the #'s seem to be decent, I guess I just keep trying other spots and change it up a little.
