Skagit Steelhead in March/April? **DELETE PLEASE**
« on: February 16, 2016, 02:35:35 PM »
I lived in Alaska for 25 years and fly fished a lot for salmon and rainbows.  I live in Bellingham now and heard the steelhead fishing is pretty good on the Skagit during these times in a book I purchased.  I am looking to bank fish the Skagit/Sauk river if possible?  Any areas better than others with walking access?

Thank you for your help.

Sounds like another recruit for occupy Skagit!

Skagit just closed down for a while, for the native fish to come in and do their thing.

You will never shoot a camp bull by spending all your time hunting in the woods.

The Skagit and Sauk are shut down until June 1. The lower section of the Skagit is open for trout March 1 but the season was designed for cutthroat and dollys.

The book is probably older and talks about big natives. They are still in there but I believe they are protected now as a threatened species.

Lots of guys on here with local knowledge that Im sure would help you out on finding fish on rivers that are still open.
People get offended at nothing at all. So, speak your mind and be unapologetic.

That's too bad, I wouldn't mind driving down to the Cowlitz or Lewis as I heard the fishing there is good as well. Is there any time better than others, I don't mind fishing for steelhead, bull trout or salmon!
