ANYBODY EVER HUNT EATON RANCH?
« on: January 27, 2009, 05:39:13 PM »
I am strongly considering hunting Eaton Ranch in S.E. Washington for Muleys/Whitetails.  Anyone done it and what was your experience and satisfaction with the hunt, land, and hosts?  Thanks all.  Jeff

My dad used to guide for rios down there, if you are talking about Wilbur Eaton. I found the biggest whitetail shed of my life down there, a big 4pt plus eyeguard, and my brother found a dead 140 class buck (winterkill or something). We saw tons of deer down there, never deer hunted it though.

We coyote hunt that place.  It's got a TON of deer but we haven't seen any monsters...  Terrain is steep but easy hunting.  Only been there twice.  I think it could be worth it, just curious on the price?

Wilbur is quite a character, I think he brushes his teeth with Copenhagen in the morning.  He has some great hunting for whitetail the whole Patit/S. Patit area is good hunting.  I also have hunted his place for coyotes, smoked one with my AR there just at the top of Melcolm Grade.  There is no doubt some monsters in there but I would expect to see a lot of 3-4 pt 125 class bucks.

I personaly know the Eatons. Very good people. My wife was in thier wedding. But I don't know any Wilbur. Their ranch is located in WaiWai (sp) Canyon.

There is both whitetails and mule deer. I've hunted it several times for coyotes, but not deer.

Yeah that is a different ranch Wilburs ranch is a pay to hunt ranch also but it's just outside of Dayton on the South Patit  I don't personally know the other Eaton Ranch put I know exactly where it is, that is probably better hunting than the one I was talking about.  Another one in that area that I would look into is the Finch Ranch, very nice people and good hunting for both WT and Muley, I used to work for them in college helping out on the farm and the hunting operation.  Used to see so very big Muley bucks in those Snake river breaks.

Like fishunt247 says i did pick up a very nice winter kill whitetail. I have seen some nice deer up there. My old highschool shop teacher killed a ripper bull there a few years back. Its hangin in the sportmans warehouse in kennewick. Its all the way back by the guns.

So just to get everything straight here. are we talkin about wilbur's place or we talkin bout the Eaton's that this guy is talking bout

I hunted birds on the Eaton Ranch(Dayton one and Wilber).  This ranch open sights is talking about is the one on the snake river though.  Sorry I haven't hunted there, they seem to have pretty good success though.

The Eaton ranch off Wawawai Grade is across the Snake river and towards Lewiston/Clarkston from Central Ferry, The Eaton ranch off the South Patit is 30-40 minutes from Central Ferry heading towards Pomeroy from Dayton on Hwy 12.  There is a bird and deer hunting ranch very near Central Ferry called Deadman Creek Outfitters.  They have a website.

Thanks Pascokid, I was trying to think of that name but wasnt sure if either of the 2 were Deadman.
There are a couple of good public places right around there that you can find some decent deer.

Pasco, its funny that I used to work in Central Ferry a long time ago and knew where there were some great deer but never have hunted them !!   I might have to take a look around there again to see what it looks like.

This last summer I worked for the people who own all the ground that the Deadman Creek Outfitters hunt on and I saw a few deer while gathering cows.  Nothing monsterous but I dated a girl whos grandpa has land bordering thiers and they have shot some muley bucks over 30 inches.  Also my family has some pasture groung just a little south of the Eaton place on the Snake River breaks and we have taken and seen some monster muleys.
Yeah but at least it will eat good...
