If I had 36 points I think I would apply with a friend so I'd have someone to hunt with :twocents:

36 = 1 x 36
or
36 = 2 X 18
or
36 = 3 X 12
or
36 = 4 X  9
or
36 = 6 X  6

I hope this helps and I wish you luck a going datin.

His name goes in the drawing like 1,300 times right?

If you know the Dayton area that is what I would hunt.  If you don't have a honey hole I would find someone that does and put in for whatever area that is in.

With 36 points you would have had approximately a 20% odds of drawing a Dayton rifle bull permit in 2014.

Average points per application was 7.8. There were about 1,300 applications and about 75,000 names in the hat. With 36 points you would have 1,296 names in the hat; there were 14 permits in 2014.

I would hunt dayton or wenaha: however, the easiest hunt would be the colockum. Contrary to what was said above, if you cant shoot a decent bull in the colockum, you probably shouldn't hunt anymore. The colockum hunt is in fact a gimme...

I hear what you are saying but I am not sure anything is a gimme.  I know a guy that ate the colockum archery tag this year.  Sometimes things just don't go your way.

With 36 Points I would be thinking about a rifle rut tag somewhere. If you can get permission Blue Creek would be a lot of fun

What do you mean bone! He has 36 points he should be guaranteed a premium tag.  :chuckle:

You gotta love the Washington draw system.

                                              2014
                        Permits    Applicants Average Draw   Not Drawn
QUALITY ELK   1,070   29,529   7.16                28,459

In all seriousness good luck to the applicant. He did the right thing and got rewarded for it.  :tup:

Thanks. I was hoping someone would actually apply math to the conversation:  1,300/75,000 x 14 = 24.3%.  That simple math problem doesn't account for the decrease in the "hat" as the first 13 names are drawn and assumes 75,000 is the correct number.  However, he also gets a second choice, so he gets to add the odds of the second choice to his first choice to get overall odds of getting drawn for either permit hunt.  I love risk analysis.
