Drew Skagit Spring Bear!
« on: March 10, 2016, 12:34:42 PM »
Five years ago I drew Monroe and if I remember correctly you could only hunt DNR land. For any of you that have drawn the Skagit tag, do they let you hunt any timber company land or is it DNR land as well?
Looking forward to a great hunt and potentially a first bear for me.

Yes the 2 times I have had the tag. If it's still the same you can hunt on some dnr/serria and grandy lake? "spelling" ground with the key you will get. It is a great area up there. I have 2 tags I'm already helping with, and I have not spent a bunch of time in there. I have had the best luck in a couple year old cuts. A lot of guys want to drive and drive and drive. Some areas the bears are use to that because of the logging but in areas that haven't been logged in awhile. I have had the best luck walking the logging roads and glassing the cuts. You can find them in some of the older cuts but they are grown up so much it's hard to spot them.

Best of luck to ya.

Grandy got bought out by Weyerhaeuser I believe you will have to buy their permit to access those areas.

Yep.  $200 access fee permit as well which only allows you, wife and kids.  No buddies unfortunately.  It should cover occupants in the rig not limited to family.
Cut em!

Find it odd that a timber company charges for a spring bear access?! You would think they would role out the red carpet

No red carpet in this state! Only hands being held out to take your cash and your soul.
