Thurston County?
« on: March 09, 2016, 08:50:26 PM »
I was checking out WDFW website a little while ago for land in the Thurston County Area.  The following showed up Black River, Davis Creek, Scatter Creek, Skookumchuk, and West Rock Prairie.  Anyone happen to know about these areas?  Are they take-a-number, overcrowded?  Or, if I put some time in can I expect to find some areas away from the crowds?

What do you want to do?  Black River is primarily waterfowl.  I haven't actually been there in years.  Davis Creek is an old dairy farm along the Chehalis River the state bought that is still used for to grow silage grass.  I have used it for dog training.  It's also primarily waterfowl.  Scatter Creek is open prairie, and is used as a pheasant release site by the state.  It's split into a south unit and a north unit.  The north unit is open all year for dog training, and it gets busy.  Skookumchuck is also used as a release site for pheasant, and for the growing of silage.  Occasionally you will find elk using the fields for feeding. Unfortunately the pheasant hunters start at 8AM, and chase them all onto the timber company land.  I am not familiar with West Rock Prairie.

To do what?  Chat with bird hunters about dogs?  Yeah its great.  I live around the area.  Hunting?  Play roulette-better luck.  But a permit from weyco if you want to hunt, its their county mostly except for Capitol peak area.
MAGA!  Again..

Deer, probably archery this year as I should have plenty of time to scout as opposed to last season
