Benelli Montefeltro Sucks!!
« on: March 24, 2016, 10:01:38 AM »
And so does Benelli.

Their Montefeltro's have an issue with the action not closing the last 1/8" or they will re open after they were shut the same 1/8".

When this happens which is very, very, very often they don't go off!!!

I know of 4 owners and ALL have the same problem.

Benelli says tough.
I say Benelli sucks and you would be better off buying any other shotgun..

The "Benelli Click"  :chuckle:
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

You must have a cull then, but i doubt it. A lot of new semi-auto gun owners goop up their action with heavy greese or aren't patient enough to allow the gun to be broken in first. Some Benelli's really do need a little breaking in first but not many.Let us know if you have any better luck with anyother brand these days. IMO any Italian made gun beats others by far :twocents:

Call Benelli.
It's laughable.
They acknowledge the problem but say its how it is.
A gun that wont go bang.

It's my only semi.
Never again.
Back to over unders and pumps.

It's easy to spot the people here that don't own one.
Cull.....lol.

Is the silver a cull or just the two standard ones?

Been shooting a benelli semi for 8 years. They certainly do not suck, rather they are one of the best actions availible. I've never had the famed benelli click happen to me. I'm guessing operator error or a very dirt gun.

It happens a lot if you set you gun down on the butt too hard. The weight of the shell will cause the bolt to back out just enough to get the click. I changed my recoil spring to the Wolfe +25% spring and I'm very careful about setting it down. I also check for it as well. I wouldn't say Benelli's are junk. It's an issue caused by the operator IMO.

You should be able to treat your gun like a tool not a priceless heirloom. My hunting partners 20ga Monte does the same thing often.

"I'm guessing operator error or a very dirt gun."
If the bolt lever accidentally touches a wimpy piece of sage brush it can happen.

"It's an issue caused by the operator IMO."
LOL.
You had to change a recoil spring in your $1000 shotgun and you still have to be careful?
Still laughing.

They are great feeling and handling.

They suck!!

My buddies brand new Silver does it right out of the box.
My "broken in" one does it.

It's the Italian thing to do.

How much you want to sell it for? Like I said I've shot my m2 for many years with 10s of thousands of rounds through it. I duck hunt a lot with usually a case or two of shells through it every season. I've never had an issue with the benelli click.

Operator issue.  Just don't slam it down.  You can get rid of it not closing all the way or eliminating it by sending it to Rob Roberts and have the forcing cone polished and smoothed out.  Closes and cycles faster afterwards.  A good gun and I have done the same.
Sell it if you don't like it.  O/U is idiot proof.  No pun intended.

I sold my Montefeltro to Cabelas because of the same thing and I dumped my M2. Benelli's kick me like mules, I mostly shoot Beretta's now because they fit me better right out of the box. For clay targets I shoot an O/U and if it is a crappy day I shoot a Win SX2. Even the SX2 has a click once and a while due to a design issue, the hammer hits the bolt operating rod.  :twocents:

If Benellies were crap I don't think they would be the number one semi auto waterfowling gun used.  :dunno:

Give you $200 for it.  :chuckle:  I know a few that can make it run error free.  Benelli also has a good 10 year warranty and easy to deal with.  They know and can fix firearms.  They run amuck if they have to try to fix the operator.

I made several attempts to get mine to function. Got tired of the problems and sold it. The factory was no help in solving the issue.

Idk maybe I'm just lucky but I just feed it shells and push the go button on the side and it just keeps going bang. The only time I've ever had an issue is when I got water in the action on a sub freezing day while duck hunting. I usually only clean it once or twice a year though. 300 dollars and I'll take it off your hands I'm serious.

Remington 1100  :twocents:

You can't run the amount of shells through an 1100 that you can through a Benelli between cleanings.  More prone to jamming when the o-ring starts to brittle and cook out as well.  You have to clean the slide over the mag frequently or it gums up and slows the cycle causing frequent stove pipes.  I was also running over 15,000 shells a season through them.  I shot the 1100 trap special all growing up.  I think I have 5 off them.  Great guns, but not apples to apples unfortunately.

Anyone that believes it's operator error probably also believes in Bigfoot.

Obviously this person has real experience.

My SBE II has done it a couple of times but each time it has I know that I smacked it down in the blind a little hard on the butt.  Since that has happened I check it frequently and be careful.  But, it's pretty hard for me to say that Benelli sucks because of that.

I can understand and sympathize with the handle hitting some brush and causing it to not fire and how frustrating that could be, especially on pheasant when you don't get that many opportunities like you do with waterfowl.

If you shoot it well modify it with the new spring or do what others have suggested.  If you don't, sell it.  In good condition it should fetch within 100-200 of what you paid for it.

Good luck

Pump for waterfowl is always a safe bet.

I use to leave my nova in my skiff all year round. That thing took a beating and still functioned perfectly.
