I heard no gun fire this weekend while I was visiting. Did run into a of turkie sneeker who sounded like he was a bit disappointed not hearing anything. Asked if I had seen any birds, Told him there was one bugling this morning across the road from me.

I had good intentions to turn about 2 acres of Dandelions to a gentle shade of dead. Unfortunately I should have not been so informative and told my Organic neighbor. I did agree to a week moratorium to see if he can find a Eco-Friendly spray we can both agree with, other wise it's DR. Death at your service.

Thru the drums I did hear about a couple of bears roaming around in the Ferry county side.
No gunfire this time of year doesn't suprise me. I've hunted the modern opener up there a number of years and was always suprised at how little gunfire I heard then!

You can thank the wolves for the lack of gun fire.

All kidding aside there are bears there you just have to get good intel.

You have a bear with your name on it?  Is it tied to a tree? I saw the culvert traps in Colville last weekend. You got it in a can then?

Was up working on my Social Skills spraying the bumper crop of Dandelion's in my yard this weekend. Saturday evening the wife and Dawg figured we needed a road trip and perhaps put a fresh fish on the plate. We made a loop around a couple of the local lakes. Fishing was a bust, but she did manage to do a head count on several deer, a non confirmed it's brown and has a big head. Moose/Elk? Could have been anything the Grandma spotted it on her side.
Quite a few turkies.
Oh ya and one Mongster Black Bear waddling down the center of the road. Only saw a few folks camping so hard to tell if any had Bear tags.

After lots of delays I finally made it to 105 this weekend.  Saw lots of bear sign, found a great looking area and set up and called.  Had a bear circle downwind in heavy cover, the let loose with warning woofs - guessing a sow with cubs.  About an hour later, called in a whitetail doe.  Third setup, nada.  I was walking back on a logging road, rounded a corner and there was a bear, broadside, looking at me.  I assessed him very quickly as I dropped to a knee, centered the crosshairs behind its shoulders and shot.

Bear spun a half circle and bailed off the downhill side of the road.  I found hair and bits of flank muscle, marked the spot and went and got my truck.  From there it went south; 5.5 hours, two rainshowers and a hailstorm later, I was totally spent, and no sign of the bear.  I'm 98% sure I killed the bear, so I'm done with the permit.

I'd like to thank everyone who shared information and advice.  Wish I had kill photos to share and a happy ending.

About 10 feet past the road edge brush, there is a bunch of slash from the uphill clearcut, all bulldozed over the edge and grown up through with hazelnut, alder and vines.  I spent 2.5 hours just covering the slash, fortunately that was before the cloudbursts and hail. I still think it augered in somewhere in the slash. I crisscrossed the slope below the slash looking for a trail of broken greenery, never found anything like that.  Ended up covering 100 yards north and south of where it entered the brush on the roadside, and 100 yards downslope, using GPS to avoid unsearched gaps.  It was about 40% slope at the road edge, sloping off to about 30% below.  Lots of places where it took multiple attempts to take a step forward, most of the time the veg was so thick i couldn't see my boots.

The bear I shot last fall in 105 didn't leave a drop of blood trail until where she died at. I have seen a bear up their shot with a 300 magnum and leave a blood trail that looked like someone dumped out red paint for 250 plus yards. That bear was still never found. Sometimes you just don't find them. It is thick up their, and the rain didn't help you. Sorry you didn't recover your bear.
