20 ga 2 3/4 turkey loads?
« on: March 31, 2016, 10:10:40 AM »
This year I will have two youth turkey hunters, but only one youth shotgun. We borrowed grandma's Rem 1100, with cut down stock as a second shotgun. The problem is it only takes 2 3/4 shells. What shell/load would you use? I'm not sure there is even a factory 2 3/4 20ga turkey shell.

Search the turkey board.

There's a topic titled "Best size to shoot turkey in face"  or something like that.

Bearpaw had a great post on their advocating specific shot size and brand.    It convinced me.   Hopefully you can find it in 20 gauge 2 3/4.

Good luck!

You are looking at only a 1/4oz difference between a 2 3/4" pheasant load and a 3" turkey load.  You'll be fine IMO with a 2 3/4" #4 or 5

I also run a Rem 20 Gauge that only takes 2 3/4 shells for the youth and women hunters. We've been very successful with the 25 ct. boxes of Remington Express high base 6's. They rarely shoot past 20 yds and 30 yds maximum. Again, great results.

I have a box of those exact shells, I think I'll give them a try.

Thanks for all the help!

A couple of years ago I took a nice tom using 20 ga heavishot 2 3/4. I was surprised at how effective it was. They are pricey if you can find them.
