Nope.  It lost us.  When I went back for the shotgun, it entered some trees.  We searched for over an hour.  She hit it hard.  There was bone fragments from the top/front of its wing.  She was disappointed, but I told her it was 100% my fault.  I was too busy looking at the back of the camera screen to see it was starting to move again.

There is always the General season!  You'll get em. Its how you come back that builds a great hunter.

Dang that is a tough way to lose one. I bet you don't let her walk up to one without her gun again lol. It's a good reminder for everyone else as well. Usually once I shoot one I just get up as fast as I can to him and step on his head if he's flopping a bunch.

Yep.  That is exactly why I dropped the camera quickly.  To reload and go grab it's kegs and step on its neck.  Then it just stopped thrashing completely.  I hate that we lost it, but it is a teachable moment, so I post this so others can learn from my mistake.

 :yike:
That's too bad, but I had the same thing happen to me years ago ... I knew the first bird was down and I thought done .... went after the second bird and nailed it ... came back with secong bird to get the first and it was gone ... searched for hours and never found it.
:dunno:.

At least you got to spend quality time with your daughter and have the general season ahead of you both.

Well, you both learned a lesson and did it together. Still makes a great day out!

That happened to me twice last year.  On the third one I grab it to quick causing it to kick and flop then my hand got spurred hard.  Sill hurts if the wound gets bumped wrong and next time step I will step on their head until they are done flopping.  I knew better because grew up pheasant hunting but two to many nightmares last season to care until it happened.
