Well had a great day of practice for the upcoming Sturgeon Derby with Hoytstaffshooter and his (aka) Dad Bill. We ended up getting about 20 fish to the boat. Showed my true rookie (maybe Sophomore) form right off the bat losing one from a crappy knot, then immediately hooking a decent what appeared to be a keeper only to have him come off just shy of the boat. Hoyt had to let one go that needed to grow an inch to keep, fat bugger though.. One or two others that were close but didn't hit the mark. Shakers after shaker till Hoyt hooked into a beauty, 7 footer. Check out the pics, but the monster (or not) of the day was the one that that I was forced to let go... You know, yea a big fish is hard to bring in and they fight super hard and everyone wants to bang their chest when they get one, pictures and everything---- but come on it takes serious talent to hook a guy like this on a four inch shrimp and 7/0 hook combo. Great trip, cold as heck and incredibly foggy till 12... Those of you that want to go guided, give Hoyt a call, great boat and is quite experienced...
