The 23 damage occured on the Cispus side.  I'm sure it's still closed by snow in the high country and Baby Shoe Pass.  I think it's going to be open from the south to at least the 2329 (Takhlakh Lake road) .  That would give access from the north via  the Johnson Creek road, Packwood area from the north.  Last years burn was mostly on the rez but I'd say 60% of the wilderness has burned since '08.  Counted 20+ rigs at the Crofton trailhead last year on opening day of modern.

There was more than one fire last year.  Some of the wilderness did burn unless the map is lying. 😊

That's not necessarily the case. I know the USFS has brought in the federal highway commission on a lot of their roads that washed out for the purpose of getting their advice on how to fix the problem. They are more experienced and deal with these issues a lot.

If it's the area I'm thinking about, it seems like it was pretty evident that the river was going to take out the road eventually without some human intervention. A few truck loads of large rock for fill may have diverted the channel enough to prevent this. Does anyone have any more details? Am I missing something?

In my opinion taking the FS90 road is faster and easier anyway.

My buddy and I hunted there last year and had a tough time finding the elk. We had a few trail cameras set up there starting in May and had tons a smaller bulls and a few decent sized bulls on the cameras. Then the fire hit that area pretty hard so we couldn't get back up there to scout until hunting season. We hunted all around but never could get into any elk. There were tons of hunters in the area, but we did run into a group that was able to get a cow. Great country to hunt, just need to get away from the crowds.
