http://wdfw.wa.gov/help/questions/302/What+happens+if+I+draw+more+than+one+special+permit+for+the+same+species+in+the+same+license+year%3F

Wouldn't it be so much better if they drew in order of Quality, Bull, and Antlerless.  If you draw Quality you automatically fail to draw bull and antlerless and just get points.  If you fail quality and draw bull you automatically fail antlerless and just get points for it?  This way if you have 9 points in all 3 and end up drawing all three this year you don't waste your bull and antlerless points.  Of course they will say but you get to hunt all three until you tag out and what a great problem to have.  Well I imaging most people would rather just hunt their quality tag and the general season and have the opportunity to have 10 points to draw a bull or cow tag the next year.

Am I wrong here?  It seems like an easy fix and the only reason not to is the random opportunity to destroy unlucky peoples hard earned points.

I think if it were an easy fix it would have been done.

Biggest issue I see with our draw system is point creep. Almost wonder how it'd be if you drew a quality tag and then couldnt apply for 5 years. Havnt gone into dephth on how that would really affect the draw system but its a thought.

I did like having the option to hold out on my early bull tag knowing I had a cow tag for the general. If a guy is looking for a better age class and holds out too long it doesn't prevent him for eventually filling the freezer later on in the season.

In addition, it probably combats point creep to a certain extent, although my guess is the result is statistically insignificant.

Maverick, I have always liked the idea that if you draw a tag you are out of that pool for at least 2 years, but you can still purchase points in said category. I also think that 75% of he tags go to the highest point holders and 25% in random draw.ts the only way to make this money grab of a system wdfw came up with work..I liked the old system way better when you had to chose bulls or cows.  :twocents:

A similar idea was proposed a couple years ago and the WDFW was considering it but I believe it was rejected by the GMAC before it could be approved. The proposal would of allowed someone who drew more than one tag to return the tags they didn't want and get there points back. The returned tags would have been given to people who didn't draw a tag.

At this point no changes will make it any better... Leave it be. The only thing Wdfw does to the draws is mess them up some more.  :twocents:

I think we should be able to buy tags for each permit we draw. If a guy draws Dayton Quality rifle and a Goose Prairie Bull he should be able to fill one and then buy a second tag to try and fill the other permit. We should not get penalized for drawing two special permits and only be able to fill one.  We played their game and payed their price, let us hunt.

Happened to me last year. Drew quality elk and antlerless. Never stepped foot in the antlerless unit.

I totally agree with that.

 :yeah:

People spend years building points. If lucky enough to draw two permits we should be able to fill both.

Both my dad and Fisheral87 drew antleress and bull tags in the same season, leaving the antlerless tag unfilled and points gone. Its frustrating to me.

I would fully support an initial draw where you take the permit you want. If you draw multiple permits, decline the ones you don't want, and then have a second drawing. This would preserve people's points, and make sure that the tags went to people who wanted/could use them.

I don't see why this would be difficult to implement.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.
