What happened?
« on: May 09, 2016, 09:21:59 PM »
New to Bows. I have to switch to Archery this year due to my work schedule. So, a month ago I went out and got a Diamond Infinite Edge Bow. I have been steadily putting 100 plus arrows down range every week. This evening, after shooting my last set of 15, I notice that something is sharp as hell on my upper limb. Well, this is what I have. Any idea what caused it or what the hell happened? No Dry Fire, No dropping, No banging on trees or rocks. I have literally been using it in my back yard on the grass until tonight when I began shooting from my deck.

looks like a limb splinter to me.  I'd say you need a new limb!

The limb appears to be delaminating. I would contact the proshop where you bought it and get another set of limbs ordered. If you are lucky it will be under warranty. Don't shoot it any more as there's a chance that limb could come apart.

Diamond is produced by Bowtech, who is know for limb failures unfortunately. Hopefully it is under warranty.

Splinters are common on machined limbs.  If the billet stock is not placed in the machine absolute perfect or fibers are not perfectly aligned with the factory cut on the billet you will get these.  I have shot splintered limbs an entire season with no problems.  Other times I have shot only one day after and had them blow up.  You really do not want to experience a machine limb blow up, believe me!!  Season isn't upon us so I would take advantage of it and have them replaced immediately.  Warrantee should cover it no problem.

And don't worry about it being something you did.  That is almost never the case with splintered machined limbs.  It just happens.  Actually, in the location you show I am surprised it did not happen earlier.  Next set of limbs might last you a decade or more.  Hard to tell with that design.

Thanks all! I talked with Bowtech and they told me to take it an authorized dealer to have them look at it and confirm. He said if it's what I was describing it would be covered by warranty. he also suggested taking it back to Cabelas (I know, first mistake, but hey allot of gift cards can go a long way) and since I am within the 30 day purchase timeframe, they may just exchange the bow, or I might be able to return it, get my money back and then upgrade. I will see more on Saturday. thanks all for your input! This transition from Modern to Archery is daunting enough!

Uh oh, I had just a little edge splinter on my Hoyt CE, and was told it was ok?
Just trimmed it off, and that was a few years ago.  Should I be concerned?
Old enough to know better.
Young enough to go for it.

Not as much of a worry with Hoyt limbs.  If small little splinter on a Hoyt I wouldn't worry unless it starts to grow.

I love my PSE and most likely will never buy another brand. I had my limbs start creeking when it was cold after 4 years so I brought it to my dealer I like to go to and asked if there was anything I can do to make it stop. He called pse up and they replaced them with new ones for free, didnt even pay for shipping no questions asked. They really take care of their customers in my experience. So if you look at other bows after all this I would check out pse's as well.

Well, Cabelas did the right thing, eventually. When I took it in to the Return Counter, the young lady behind the counter who said she was a bow hunter, said that it was probably a manufacturers defect and it shouldn't be a problem. The young man at the Archery dept. talked with his manager and initially the solution was for me to leave the bow there until Monday, when they would contact Bowtech and then get either a new limb or limbs, repair it and then I could come back and pick it up. Well, being that Cabelas is out of my way, and I really didn't feel like coming back or waiting, I told him that per the Cabelas return policy (24 days since purchase) I am going to return the Bow come up and simply purchase a new one. Again he said that customer service would need manager approval but that option would obviously fix me having to go back down. so, that's what I did. 1 1/2 hours later, I walked out with a Brand New Bow. They were very helpful after it became apparent that I wasn't going to come back, and that I wasn't going to settle for a limb replacement. Some lessons learned;
1. If I stick with Archery and get another Bow, I will be investing in a better quality bow and will be purchasing from someplace other than a Box Store.
2. Know the return policy for anything and everything that I purchase
Overall I was happy with the end result of getting a new Bow, but I wish I hadn't had to have done it.
