Any local lakes good for fishing near Kennewick?
« on: May 09, 2016, 09:40:23 PM »
We are headed over near Kennewick in a couple weeks for a camping trip. The little guy is a fishing junky and really wants to go fishing, however we have never been over there camping before...anyone know of any local lakes for fishing over there? No honey holes wanted, just something to keep the 7 year old entertained.
Thanks.

There aren't really many lakes in the Tri-cities area besides the family fishing pond.
The Family fishing pond in Columbia park is perfect for kids (14 and under, or 65 and older), its usually packed down there after the lake is stocked, but i have no idea how it is right now since im too old to go now, but the fish they put in there are huge.
The best place to fish down there is between a bridge and a fishing dock on the south side of the lake, hit it early in the morning with powerbait, before the crowd comes!

The other option is Dalton lake, which is over in Franklin county...

You could always travel to the I-82 ponds and fish there also.  I'd try fishing for smallmouth with some tube jigs on the Columbia if I were you.  There's a lot of spots if you're boatless to fish for them if you're just trying to stay in town.

Quarry pond? Is it still full of stocked trout? I remember fishing there when I was younger with my grandpa and we always did well

Yup channel cats and plenty of bass, there's areas to fish from shore too. Caught a couple catfish including a 9 pounder two years ago on ultralight gear and 4 lbs test fishing for bass, that sure was fun haha.

You can fish from shore all along the pathway out to Bateman Island , if the water has dropped low enough there is good fishing at the northwest point of batemans from shore, just follow the path out there. You can fish from shore along the western bike path from Bateman to the mud hole launch. (Cats and Bass). Hit hood park and fish from the docks and launch or north along shore after the swimming area. Dalton lake is 15 minutes out of pasco past Ice harbor damn that is a stocked lake but also has decent blue gill, crappie and bass fishing from shore. Last time I was there it was fairly crowded though and I didn't stay long. The marina at Anthony's just under the I-82 bridge serves up a nice shoreline and access to river smallmouth, from the marina take the bike path east under the bridge and fish from shore. Weightless senko drifted on bottom works good here. The Howard Amon park has a good shoreline as well, fish the same from the northern launch and shoreline....
