They stated in an article, which I could not find, that they are making more money selling permits than lumber.

This is absurd....

Camping is now allowed on most, if not all, of the Weyerhaeuser permit areas.
Target shooting and driving before daylight and after it gets dark at night is prohibit too
That's my one shot.

I guess it could be the case, does seem hard to figure though.  If you assume they are on a 50 yr rotation then only 2% of their harvestable acreage (on average) gets cut each year; and 2% of harvestable acreage for commercial thin.  Might get a little bit of income off the hog fuel chips.  But lots of expense for the timber part of the operation--logging crews, foresters, road building, security, etc.  Hunting permits are access to all the acreage every year (maybe not in active cutting, but do get the stream buffers).  What expenses are with hunting?  Maybe a tiny amount of road repair, a couple extra hours for security during the main seasons, mailing out permits and keys, replace an occasional lock, little bump in insurance.  :dunno:

They bring in more NET dollars on a single harvest unit than they GROSS off of permits on most of the farms. . . Take Vail below. . .

800 permits x $300 each = $240,000 GROSS

50 acre unit x 25 mbf/ac x $300/mbf stumpage (NET) = $375,000

Sure, a bigger farm that sells more permits such as Longview it might take a few units. . .

3500 permits x $300 each = $1,050,000

$1,050,000 / $300/mbf stumpage / 25 mbf/acre = 140 acres of harvest

It is, as kentrek said, absurd.  It's not even close.

Actually, you can drive an hour and a half before day light and an hour and a half after dark.

that's new this year I believe. I also see where you can't have side by sides, ORV's ATV's,  snowmobiles  On a trailer or a truck. so I guess you pay more for less
That's my one shot.

When have ATV's ever been allowed on Weyerhaeuser land?

The drive times have been the same since they started permit access. Nothing new and no on motorcycles, atvs and side by sides. Not even in a truck bed. The rules haven't changed.

So, if an area needs a permit will that be on signage at the gate or will the gate be locked to those who don't have a permit?

Weyco permits suck!!!  The deer and elk hunting is horrible and it is way overcrowded on the weekends. I suggest that everyone keep their $$$$ and hunt the bountiful Capitol Forrest.

Capitol Forest is not the place to go if you want to avoid crowds.

I was there today and the place sounded like a warzone.
