Puyallup river closed for the year
« on: May 27, 2016, 07:10:37 AM »
I just read in the Tacoma News Tribune that the Puyallup river is closed to fishing for the year. You can bet it will be corked off by the Indians though. I am happy I didn't waste my cash on a license this year. This state has become a joke with our WDFW caving to the tribes. Glad I'm heaxed to Alaska next month.

I hadn't seen that yet.  I did get an email that they had reached an agreement on salmon fishing.

Let me just remind everyone that this is a heated subject and right now it is in the fishing section not off topics.  Please remember to follow forum rules, it makes our high paying jobs easier.  :chuckle:

Carry on.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Makes me sick to my stomach that in 2016 this is still considered okay to give privileges to one race over another. It should be closed to EVERYONE!!!  :twocents:

Does not sound like an agreement when only one side has all the closures!

The state's 50% is being caught in the saltwater. (supposed reason)

Exactly! what was being negotiated? how much money the WDFW was going to receive from the tribe? Doesn't seem like much of a negotiation. Seems like the tribes said "we are going to do whatever we want" and WDFW said "okay"

I don't fish the saltwater. Where is my 50% that I already paid for?

Not asking you specifically JimmyHoffa. Just sayin. this sucks.

If they were to go for the 50% in the river, then they would have to close all the saltwater.  I guess they think that the half caught in the sound will happen so fast they can't open river, no under quota from the salt?  I think that was the trade off with WDFW to open up the sound.
I don't get to the saltwater anymore either, and with the nets almost pointless to go to the river half the week.

If there's any non tribal commercial coho fishery, that will count against your 50% too. Maybe you can buy one of "your" fish.

You guys have to remember, WDFW is not caving to the tribes. The tribes will do whatever they want because they have Federal backing. The state (us and WDFW) get what's left basically. The state has no say in what the Indians do.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

If they have no say, Then what are the negotiations for?
