Pedigree Search
« on: May 17, 2009, 02:52:47 PM »
I am trhying to look up a history on a dog. I have the pedigree but can not find any info. I tryed the AKC web site but was not able to come up with any thing, i guess they they want you t be a paying member before they offer any good information.

If any one knows of any other good source of information on the web i sure would appreciate it.

I beleive you can buy a pedagree history from AKC, not sure if you have to be a member or not. :dunno: What info are you trying to get? If the dog your trying to get info on ever competed in Canada you might be able to get it from their organization easier.

I've noticed the AKC isn't very helpful unless you're willing to forfiet your credit card number.  Check with the breeder, and see if they have the 3 year pedegree for their dogs.  If they don't... :dunno:you might want to look somewhere else.

Here is where you go for lab pedigrees;

What is his pedigree? come on, already talked to Bryant.....my training partner is a lab encyclopedia of pedigree information......I'd be happy to pass it on/ask him....he is really blunt, you may not like his reply....all he cares about is field trial titles....no hunt test stuff....

I have found that the AKC website is not that great but if you call them they are usally very helpfull.

Hey Paul, the reason i was asking was because i was looking at a pup from a private seller and wanted to see if i could locate any titles or the breeder from the dogs past history. The pedigree i was show for the dog only had the names of the dam and sire and the names of there dam and sire (with SN of course), and wanted to look back in the blood line to see if any testing has been done on the blood line or titles earned. (two of the names looked familar to me but could not find any info for them).

The pup i was looking at did not work out after all, but could be useful in the future for research of another dog.

My daughter is getting a pup in 4 weeks and the sire from the male is a pup from "Rockin M Steady as a Rock", Bryants dog.  ;)

Good call on going with Bryants batch. Good dog info should show AKC titles such as MH, FC etc.

I know of someone considering selling field trial "washout" (use the term loosely there he would make a master hunt test look easy)..he is about 90lbs of rippling muscled bird machine Yellow lab. He would make a great duck dog or upland pheasant dog for a guide. He shouldn't sell for less the $5K though....He handles reliably and is very steady. Just not field trial material....otherwise, his attitude is awesome and he loves people. I think he is 3.5 years old maybe 4. I would buy him if I had the cash and didn't just get another Chessie Pup.

Don't take what Paul said as belittling Lab's that only run Hunt test's, because I know he did'nt  mean for it to sound that way. it's all in what type of dog you want. Me I run hunt test, and have no desire to get involved in the Field trials. Only reason we run AKC, NAHRA, HRC, APLA, and BDC....is cus all I really want is an awesome hunting partner, and during the off season it's something to do, and in the end you have a better trained dog, and your a better handler. So find a good breeding, with good health clearence's...  Title's help knowing that the blood line is at least trainable....  I've seen some good back yard bred pup's..   but have also seen some that did'nt even want to fetch, hated water, and could care less about a bird.....  but they made great family pet's..... think in the pup world...  the old adage is true..."Ya get what ya pay for"

Wayne1, i am with you. My Hemi was my buddy first. i was training him to hunt and practice on hunt test. I would not have traded him for the worl, but unfortunatly his life was cut short and he was taken away from me.

Right now i am looking t get my daughter (Rocy) a lab, my buddy will come at a later date (as soon as I am ready). We will be training her dog (snickers) to be our hunting companion.

I just got luck to find that the sire of the pup we are getting is a offspring from one of Bryants dogs (Rock). The guy did not even know what he has. He told my that the sire of his dog was a hunt test champ.
I looked at the pedagree and knew exactly where the dog came from, all i had to do see the name and i was sold.

Yeah, and Bryant is a "No Bull *censored*" kind a guy, guess thats why we get along.
And if Bryant is seeing this, Hey, Whats up, if you need any help let me know.

Definately not talking any labs or hunt test dogs down. If you are interested in pedigrees, it is just the fact that FC's / MH's / ***(QAA) is what you are looking for if you require a top notch hunting partner. If you want a buddy who will pick up a few ducks and bust a rooster and hang out with your kids 90% of the time, usually just meeting the parents and knowing someone hunts the heck out of the dog will do the trick.

Like Wayne said, pedigree with the right titles gives a baseline indication that the pup should have the tools to do more advanced training and work a little higher level. Or, have the nose to be a true hunting machine.

It brings on the classic/regular topic of field labs vs. British labs.........British labs are the big blocky headed labs and they are usually pigs when it comes to working.....field labs have the narrow head and smaller bodies and have 10X the hunting abilities of a British/show lab...

It all depends on your expectations and what you want.....nothing wrong with either. I love all dogs and I don't really care what their pedigree says as long as the dog does the job it was purchased to do......hunting, family, pal, working whatever....

BTW, The Yellow Lab is for sale for $3,000.00. He would be an absolute bargain for someone looking for a really friendly dog that handles very good and has an unstopable personality and amazing nose.

Your breeder should have supplied that information, if the dog is truly registered.

I think what was saying is that he looked on Pups pedigree and saw one of Bryants breedings is in the lines. If pup is only 5 weeks old he won't get pup of paperwork until he pays in full.

AKC papers usually only show a few generations back. When you use good dog info, you can go back further and research pups siblings, 1/2 siblings and their titles and performance in whatever akc venue the chose to run.(field trials, hunt tests, obediance, rally etc...) Hap
