Good beginner recurve?
« on: August 08, 2016, 10:41:13 AM »
Never shot bows before but I am looking to get into archery hunting now that I am almost recovered from shoulder surgery. I am more interested in traditional archery hunting than compounds the more I think about it.

I wanted to start out with a cheaper version for practice before I ease into a nicer model (i.e. Hoyt and such)

I found this Vista-Sage model at Cabelas and it seemed to be well spoken for.

http://www.cabelas.com/product/hunting/archery/bows/recurve-bows-longbows%7C/pc/104791680/c/104693580/sc/104235480/i/103969080/vista-sage-62-take-down-bow/1202681.uts?destination=%2Fcategory%2FRecurve-Bows-Longbows%2F103969080.uts

Should I opt for 45lbs since it will be just for initial practice and honing skills? I do not plan to hunt with a bow until next spring or fall.

Thank you,
AK 907

45# can be a real eye opener if you have not been shooting much.
You will be amazed at how sore you will be after a few dozen arrows.
Also think about what your draw length is, 45# @ 28" will be 50# @ 30", or something close, usually about 3# per inch...
Great weight for practice, and decent hunting weight, too many archers go with their ego and over-bow themselves.. :twocents:

start MUCH lower than 45#!  25-30# would let you practice your form, which is the important part.
