554 Yale area
« on: August 29, 2016, 10:17:39 PM »
I am hunting west side muzzleloader this year and have been scouting  the green mountain area south of lake merwin. I saw a lot of deer tracks but no elk sign. Have any of you seen any elk up there? I'm  wondering if it is worth continuing or if I should look somewhere else.

I if you want the Yale unit, it's small.  I'd scout it all.

I'd look at everything that borders the Toutle, you'll likely need a Weyerhaeuser pass :hello:

The elk on green mountain hang out on private property.  Lots of state ground,  keep looking.

Have seen some on the border of Toutle and Yale. Northwest portion of the Yale unit.
In God we trust, all others bring cash.

Hope the quad riders that have well worn trails around the gates don't mess things up in the north half.   >:( :bash:

Was out there Thursday for deer opener and happened to stumble on a lone spike out on green mountain.  Out of all the years going up there and hearing rumors of elk I finally saw one. Followed it around a bit just to see if there were anymore but it was  just a young and dumb one that didn't know how to stick to the private property.

Like was said.... Northside of the unit. Yale toutle boarder, rock creek, not a secret and you won't be alone.
