3 fletch or 4?
« on: September 13, 2016, 02:30:12 PM »
I shoot FOB's starrflight.com so the only fletched arrow I have is the one I use to paper tune. My BH of choice is a Slick Trick 100gr Magnum. For those that fletch and shoot a 4 blade BH do you fletch 4 vanes or the standard 3? I read people talking about needing to a line the BH blade and vane so it got me thinking. I never see anyone with a 4 vane arrow so does it really matter? With FOB's I just pull a broken one off and put a new one on.
God Bless,
Scott

I have 4 vanes on my FMJs, seems to tune broadheads to field points well.

I 4 fletch "X" wing style and don't worry about what my broad head blades line up with all that much.

I have 4 fletched for as long as I having been bow hunting. The person who taught me to build arrows said that you never had to worry about the Cock feather if you were watching a animal that you had shot and were getting a second arrow in to it. It has always seemed like the best reason to me you can get the arrow on the string with out looking.

I also do the same as Ridgeratt. When you need to knock an arrow and you have to watch the animal it is nice to just get the arrow knocked and not have to stop and look down at your arrow before you draw the bow. You want to stay on the animal. I also do not care how my Slick Trick broadheads lines up with the fletches. Try setting up an 4 fletch arrow with 3 inch vanes and shoot it to see how it works out of your set up.

I run 4 fletch on all my compound arrows. I have shot 2 blade to 5 blade heads. I run the hp's which are like blazers. I have had great luck tuning my arrows running 4 fletch. If you are using a 2" vane 4 fletch might be helpful with stabilizing the 4 blade head.

I just screw my broadheads on and go shoot. Don't have to worry about aliment or look at my arrows when I knock up in a quick shooting situation.
