Night Force ATACR. Worth the money?
« on: September 15, 2016, 10:30:09 AM »
So my buddy is offering me a night force ATACR 5-25-56, for $1700. Looking at the sites it looks like they run about $2400.  Any have experience with them and should I spend that much money on it.   Also getting into long range hunting, is this to much for the first good scope?  Always had 3-9 bushnell.  Because after i also need to buy a good long range rifle.  And another thing. I have $2300 to spend on a LR rifle. What's your favorite? And worth that money.planning to shoot up to 1000yds. Either a 7mm mag or .300 mag. Thanks for the help.

We just picked up a new rifle that came with an ATACR, I have an NXS on another rifle. Id say they are well worth the money, that ATACR is a pretty amazing scope

Any NF scope is worth the money, especially if you can get an ATACR for that price, provided its in good shape.  With the 34mm tube and 56mm objective you'll have lots of light gathering.  Only down side is the scopes physical size.  And as far as an LR rifle try Cooper firearms of Montana, the Jackson hunter is awsome and itll fit your budget

That's a good price.  A lot of guys have been off loading their gen 1 ATACR's for the new enhanced model.  Same glass, just doesn't have the features of the new one.  As far as the rifle, for $2300, if you have a Remington action already, you can build a pretty nice setup.

So just found out that the scope is Second Focal point.  Thought he said it was first. :bash:  How much more work would I have to do before taking a shot?  Worth buying now?  Or just go with another scope?   If so what kind?  Up to $1200.

If you just getting into it and have the money to spend I would get a NXS a little simpler and super rugged I wouldn't settle for a lesser scope just to resale for less money later on down the road just to buy what you really want.

Well F1 ATACRS are $2800 and on every site Ive seen they are back ordered.  A $2400 NF scope for $1700 is worth it no matter what focal point it is

Talk to RBros on here about a long range rifle. I've seen pics and heard a lot of great things about his rifles. They are on my wish list. I'd like to go check out his work but I'm afraid that if I show up I'll buy one and I'm not quite ready yet.

I'd still buy it as a second fp. It's user preference what focal plane you want.

If you have the cash, grab it. I paid the same for my ATACR and it was one of the best deals I've had in a long time. When you compare it to an NXS ,which I see sell used for the same price pretty often, it's a heck of a deal. IMO there's no comparison between my NXS and an ATACR. The ATACR has noticeably better glass, better reticles (mine is the MIL-R) and a better feel to the turrets.

Don't let the SFP stop you. If you don't like it I'm sure you can sell the ATACR for what you paid pretty quick. Since it's going on a LR gun you'll probably be running max power most of the time anyways, so the scale will be accurate. Not to mention the fact that lots of FFP reticles are too heavy for precision shooting at long range when on max power.

For the rifle, $2300 will build you a very nice rifle with a little waiting and careful shopping. Especially if you track down a good deal on a used rifle.

Thank you guys for the feedback.  -yorketransport- thank you for your advice, I was going to pass that deal up, but not anymore, I'll pick up that ATACR, what you said makes since.
