Gutpile's Whitman county whity
« on: October 16, 2016, 06:09:59 PM »
I went into the season without a lot of Hope For Success because of last year's bluetongue outbreak. I've hunted this property for 40 years and I've never seen such low deer numbers as I saw last year. Yesterday was just a bust because of the wind and the rain. I did see this guy yesterday, at least I think it was him on the neighboring property that's closed to hunting unless you want to pay $1,500. I was really feeling good this morning the weather was beautiful I saw a couple deer Milling around. I found a bedded buck down on the River Bottom. He was a little deer, I would never shoot something like him on opening weekend but considering the deer numbers being so low I decided to take a poke at him. Wouldn't you know it? I missed! I was so pissed I could barely see straight. I've had problems with this rifle in the past I've actually missed three bucks but I thought it had it dialed in I must have something wrong with the scope mounts or something. I just don't know what to think about it. Anyhow to make a long story even longer I went back to the truck and swapped it out because I always bring two rifles. I grabbed my Tikka 7 mm and decided to try a couple bedding areas that I know about when it's windy like today. And there this guy lay. I saw him at about five hundred yards but I was able to close to 200. I whacked him right in his bed. I don't know if you've ever heard the accubond pop but it is awesome! LOL especially out of a 7 millimeter. I just couldn't be happier. I mean with the deer numbers being so low I thought I was going to end up shooting a little pipsqueak if anything at all. I did have the multi-season tag so I could shoot a doe with the muzzy but you gotta admit, bucks are just a lot more fun. He's a great buck for the area  good Mass, good symmetry, nice big old grain-fed deer. Anyways thanks for looking. good luck this season.

The one that got away.

The one that didn't.

Nice buck. Sounds like a good time. I'm headed out for a bit tomorrow morning on some new ground up by Newport. Congrats!

Nice buck! Where I hunt at I don't know if I'd be leaving an extra rifle in the truck!

Way to go stud! That last pic is pretty cool with the storm clouds in the back ground.

Congrats man! That's a good looking buck.
