GMU 342 Umtanum Muzzy Season
« on: October 21, 2016, 09:52:30 AM »
Did anyone hunt 342 this season for muzzleloader? We didn't hunt it for the first time in 10 years. I'm curious what the elk and hunter numbers were like with the cold and wet weather since they've been pretty bad the last few years. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to respond publicly.

I talked to some ML hunters with four cow tags and they didn't see anything.  Said the Indians came in one day and took. 6pt out.

Yup, wolves and Indians got them all, don't come here.  :chuckle: in the great adventure story "the two towers" we had chased elk in there so to say there is no elk is questionable. Archers we ran into laid out a nice bull.

I know some guys that did okay in there and filled a bull tag with a muzzy.  They didn't say it was as great as some years but that's hunting.

Two members of our group hunted there.

They were not successful. The fires late in the season didn't help. They started off camping at BBQ flats,..... and so did 35 other rigs.... They then moved up the Bald Mountain road.

All they saw were a bazillion other hunters running around on quads,....

Not many hunters midweek. I saw 2 groups of cows midweek and wasn't hunting.

Saw a couple of sets of Elk tracks in the snow top of Bald Mt. a couple days ago, did not see any on the hoof though.  I was there for the past 9 days for modern deer.

I took my girlfriends father and brother up there for 10 days. Of course I was only there for guidance and bear. I was the one seeing elk. But not many. Had two spikes opening day, then each day a couple cows for the next 4 days. Then nothing.. It was the slowest I have ever seen. More hunters carrying sheds then anything. I only know of one bull and one cow being taken.

We moved to the Nile last year. Two many cow tags in 342.

Not much better in the Nile though. Lots of sign but no love.
