Looking into a Quality deer hunt not in washington in 2018
« on: November 29, 2016, 01:22:58 PM »
My hunting partners where talking about a good place to shoot a GOOD to GREAT buck. I don't want to pay money to hunt a Washington buck that I can get on my own. We want Quality. Either a ranch or eastern Montana, North Dakota even thinking some of those big bucks in Canada. (MULEDEER). I am just trying to start doing research to get a place narrowed down cause I am sure we would have to do some sort of deposit in 2017. Ideas please.

As in Washington bucks, I mean I see pictures of these hunts people go on and they are average bucks for this state and pay 3500 to 5000.

Broadus, MT........billed as the Mule Deer Capital of The World.

Start early and familiarize yourself with the Block Management program.  That will allow you to make
reservations to hunt on lots of very big ranches at no cost to you.

http://fwp.mt.gov/hunting/hunterAccess/blockman/

There are quite a few outfitters that have leases on ranches in the area.  We saw many bucks on ranches
that were leased to outfitters.  Just do a Google search on outfitters in the Powder River or Broadus areas.

There is also considerable public land to hunt around Broadus.

Good luck !!

1. What is a GOOD deer to you?
2. What is a GREAT deer to you?
3. Why do you want to pay for it?
3a. Would a 160 that you worked for be better to you than a 180 you paid for?

Biggest questions have been laid out. Budget, what's a good buck and what's a great buck.

That is a great option too. Friend just got back from an archery hunt in Alberta and said he passed on multiple 170+ bucks holding out for a 200. He has shot lots of good bucks and doesn't lie. I saw a few pics of bucks he passed on  :yike:

Unless I'm mistaken, you have to use outfitters/guides if you hunt Canada as a non resident/citizen.

If you just want to kill a big deer go to Alberta with one of the top outfitters.

If you want to hunt big deer, buy a CO landowner voucher and go hunt.

I have heard from several trusted sources that Alberta is the place to go for a truly top of the line mule deer hunt. Every time I look into it though I get suckered into the sheep pages and ask my wife if she happens to have squirrelled away 40k...

Seriously though, Alberta.
