Tips for keeping line & eyes from freezing?

It's tough fishing when your gear keeps freezing. The braid was freezing on the spool, line freezing to the eyes and eyes freezing shut. Even my slip bobber freezes to the line when putting on a new shrimp. I went to mono and waxed with chap stick, tried silicone spray and that helped but doesn't last long. Between taking care of slack line and freeing up frozen stuff I would hate to get a take down and miss a fish. Am thinking about WD40 ? Has any one found a solution ?

I've always used mono line for steelheading in the Winter and just dip the whole rod in the river to clear the guides each time they ice up. The line feed guide either gets blown on or fingers to clear it. Isn't steelheading fun when your hands are frozen, the guides are fouled, no more hot coffee in your thermos and the fish aren't biting! Hope you didn't invite friends over for steelhead unless there is one in the freezer.

Tried Vaseline on the eyes?? Worked for me winter trout fishing on Lake Roosevelt.

same as above, dip in the river to clear the ice or put it in the rig and turn the heat up..Good Luck-n-Hook-em up!

Someone told me Pam works. I just dip it when needed.

Pam and Armor All both work - for a while, then you you need to break the ice out and reapply. Both will get you more casts between applications than dipping, but dipping doesn't require equipment or manually breaking the ice out.

stay away from braid when it's cold.  that stuff is impossible to deal with, since it soaks up water and then it freezes.

i've never really bought into spraying petroleum products like WD40 on my line, that stuff will deteriorate it.  i just prefer to dunk my rod in the water every couple casts.

yep and shake it,or while waiting for a bite,I would tap the eyes or clean them

Someone needs to market heated guides that run on AA batteries stored in the handle of the rod. Heck, the handle could be heated also!

Kept the ice out of the guides this morning... Pretty slow...it took nearly two hours to limit. Pics are a little bloody I always bleed my fish before cleaning/filleting

Thanks all ! I've tried it all.I found that I just have to pay attention to the freezing and take care of it when it happens, and it will happen. I added another bobber stop below to keep the depth i want. As slow as it has gotten lately I have nothing better to do than clear ice anyway. Nice fish there Buckcanyon. I bleed them as well. I cut the gills and toss them back in the water just before i head home. Definitely less mess when processing.

I find when I sit in my heated abode and watch football, my fishing gear doesn't freeze 

On a serious note: I use petroleum jelly

Denatured alcohol in a spray bottle 50/50 with water can work when boat fishing.

 WDFW would ban electronics mounted to rods/reals.

Spray original PAM on your eyes and it will work.  Do it when the eyes are dry.  It will work just fine and than reapply when needed.

Blackberry brandy seems to work just fine. I mean yea dipping your rod once in a while helps too!
