GMC Acadia?
« on: December 19, 2016, 09:40:15 PM »
Its my wife's turn at a new (newer, wont buy brand new) vehicle and she has picked the GMC Acadia. Anyone have real experience reviews on these? They seem nice, a good compromise between a full size and compact SUV. The Chevy Traverse seems to run a touch cheaper for what appears to be the same rig?
We went and looked at one and I mentioned that a quartered bull should fit just right and got the death stare so I'm not sure it would be the best hunting rig.  :chuckle:

I was looking at the Toyota Highlanders also, how are those?

One of my staff has one.  He. Is 6' 6" and 320.  His kids are tall too.  He says it's the only vehicle he has felt comfortable in for some time.  He's had it for 6-8 months, no issues yet.

AWD Flex.

The look takes some getting used to, but they are huge inside, get decent mileage and are great in snow.

And a tuned eco-boost rips.

Bought one for my wife about 6 months ago. She loves it. I really wanted a Tahoe for the space, 5.3, and towing but couldn't justify the price with already having a truck. We dont have AWD, but it still does well for traction and has plenty of great features. We looked at the Toyota's but this ended up winning out as we didnt like the style of the highlander(mini van), and the 4 Runner 3rd row seat was a joke. And if the 3rd row seat wasn't required for us we probably would have went with a Grand Cherokee, I dont know if thats an option for you.

I would be leery of their transmission history. 75K miles seems like a pretty consistent issue. Highlander holds resale value handsdown over GMC products..

My brother in law bought a Chevey Traverse. He and his wife have 4 kids, and it hauls them with room to spare. Its been a good rig for them. They took it on a trip to Colorado and they were all very happy when they got to the reunion site. I would say the vehicle is a winner.

What transmission is in them?

Have an 09 AWD traverse with 106000 miles.  Love it.  Has the factory towing package and block heater.  Cargo area with both rows of seats folded down is huge.  With 3 rows we loaded 4 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 lapdogs and went to on a 2 night trip.  The boys weren't excited to be in the very back as legroom is ok but not great.  Another drawback during that trip was using the 3rd row limits cargo area.

I'm 6'5' and have plenty of leg and headroom.  2nd row has plenty of room too.

Couple of PITA things.....changing oil on your own...haven't figured it out without burning the crap out of my arm.  It's a transverse engine.  From the top you have to reach past the exhaust manifold.  From the bottom there isn't any access.  Headlights...you have to access them through the fender well.  Changing the battery is a pain too, it's accessed through the floor in the 2nd row.  Getting it out of the "hole" with adult sized hands was painful.

We bought an Acadia at Sunset Chev this last spring and it came with a lifetime powertrain warranty (they include it on alot of their newer cars). My wife absolutely loves the car especially with all of the room we have. Only drawback, anytime we go anywhere with friends, they wanna take our rig  :bash:

My wife has a '14 Acadia - loves it.  Lots of room, handled this snow and ice the last few weeks awesome.  35k miles and 0 issues.  Im pretty sure the Traverse is an identical vehicle (and a bit cheaper).

I'm liking the responses, I'm 6'-05 and so far its been the only rig that is comfortable that isn't a fullsize.

She started out looking at the Grand Cherokee because my daughter has one and its been great for her, but I shot that down because it wasn't comfortable for me.

Haven't read anything about any tranny issue yet?

GMC Acadia, Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave are all "same" car.  Different trim, styling, badges etc but mechanically the same.

Don't know about any tranny issues but the early ones like mine had some steering related recalls.
