You could try going to the hobby shop and getting some super thick super glue and the activator spray. It dries the glue instantly when it's sprayed on it. Drill a 1" deep or so hole in each side. Insert a fairly stout piece of wire in each side before gluing. Not foolproof strength, but it definitely helps reinforce the strength at the bond.
